POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing and administering all nursing services. This includes planning, directing, and coordinating nursing and auxiliary staff to ensure high-quality resident care. Key aspects involve interpreting facility policies, ensuring compliance, evaluating services for improvement, and providing essential in-service training programs.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES (Key Areas):
Develops and implements nursing philosophy, objectives, policies, and standards.
Monitors nursing care to ensure kindness, dignity, and respect for all residents.
Manages and updates nursing department policies, procedures, and quality assurance programs.
Conducts daily rounds, reviews resident progress notes, and ensures care plan implementation.
Collaborates with the Administrator on budget development and control for nursing services.
Maintains strong relationships with medical staff, residents, families, and the community.
Provides direction to nursing staff through policies, meetings, and memos.
Participates in facility committees (e.g., Patient Care Policy, Infection Control, Quality Improvement).
Assesses potential residents' care needs relative to facility capabilities.
Coordinates infection control procedures and ensures staff training.
Ensures adequate nursing equipment and supplies.
Notifies physicians and families of significant changes in resident health.
Determines staffing needs, coordinates schedules, and recruits/hires professional nursing personnel.
Evaluates staff performance, provides counseling, and addresses disciplinary matters.
Prioritizes resident safety, adhering to all legal, health, and safety codes.
Ensures residents and families receive high-quality, compassionate service.
Remains on call for emergencies 24 hours a day.
SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/VOCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Graduate of an accredited nursing school with a current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure by the New Jersey State Board of Nursing.
Minimum of five years full-time clinical experience, with at least two years in nursing supervision in a long-term care setting.
BSN preferred.

Ability to work independently and make necessary decisions.
Excellent interpersonal skills for positive interactions with staff, residents, families, and agencies.
Proficiency in developing and implementing programs and policies to ensure quality care.
Thorough knowledge of nursing practices, medical procedures, and long-term care regulations (licensing, certification).
Annual verification of a negative TB skin test required.
PERFORMS RELATED DUTIES:
May assume administrative duties in the absence of the Administrator/Assistant Administrator.
Engages directly with residents, families, visitors, and employees.
