Infection Preventionist / Staff Educator (SNF)
Position Summary
We are seeking a knowledgeable and motivated Infection Preventionist / Staff Educator to support clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, and high-quality resident care within our Skilled Nursing Facility. This dual-role position is responsible for leading the facility’s infection prevention and control program while developing, coordinating, and delivering staff education and competency training.
The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about improving outcomes through education, surveillance, and best practices.
Infection Preventionist / Staff Educator Key Responsibilities
Infection Prevention & Control

Lead and maintain the facility’s Infection Prevention and Control Program in accordance with CDC/CMS guidelines

Conduct infection surveillance, tracking, trending, and reporting (including outbreaks and communicable diseases)

Monitor and support compliance with hand hygiene, PPE usage, isolation precautions, and environmental cleaning

Collaborate with leadership and interdisciplinary teams on infection control policies, risk reduction, and audits

Support outbreak response planning, mitigation strategies, and documentation

Provide guidance on antibiotic stewardship and infection control best practices

Maintain readiness for surveys and ensure infection control documentation is complete and accurate
Staff Education & Competency

Develop and deliver onboarding, annual in-services, and ongoing training for clinical staff

Conduct competencies, skills validations, and education based on facility needs and performance trends

Provide education related to infection prevention, clinical policies, documentation, and resident care standards

Partner with DON/ADON and department leaders to address training gaps and improve clinical performance

Support implementation of new clinical programs, procedures, and quality initiatives
Infection Preventionist / Staff Educator Qualifications
Required:
-
Active RN license (in good standing)

Minimum 2+ years of experience in a Skilled Nursing Facility or long-term care setting

Working knowledge of infection control standards, surveillance practices, and regulatory requirements

Strong communication, teaching, and organizational skills

Ability to lead initiatives, conduct audits, and educate across multiple disciplines
Preferred:

Infection Preventionist experience in SNF/LTC
-
Certification such as CIC (Certification in Infection Control) or willing to obtain

Experience with CMS survey readiness, QAPI, and performance improvement initiatives

Familiarity with antibiotic stewardship programs and reporting/tracking tools
