Recreation Specialist – Full Time
The Paramount at Somers, a CareRite Care Centers facility, is seeking a Full-Time Recreation Therapist to join our dynamic Therapeutic Recreation team. This role is ideal for a creative, clinically grounded professional who is passionate about resident-centered care and meaningful programming in a skilled nursing and rehabilitation setting.
Position Overview
The Recreation Therapist develops, coordinates, and implements therapeutic recreation programs that promote residents’ highest practicable level of physical, cognitive, social, emotional, and psychosocial well-being. This position works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to ensure programs are assessment-driven, outcome-focused, and compliant with state and federal regulations.
Responsibilities
· Conduct ongoing assessments to identify resident interests, strengths, needs, and functional abilities.
· Develop and implement individualized and group therapeutic recreation programs aligned with residents’ plans of care.
· Participate in care planning and support MDS-related therapeutic recreation documentation.
· Provide engaging on-unit and off-unit programs that encourage participation and enhance quality of life.
· Promote activities in a motivating, resident-centered manner.
· Coordinate and assist with unit-based celebrations, special events, and seasonal programming.
· Transport and escort residents to activities settings.
· Prepare and execute monthly program calendars reflective of resident demographics, cultural preferences, and abilities.
· Complete timely and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (Point Click Care preferred)
· Assist with supply requisitions and maintain organized program materials.
· Create and maintain bulletin boards and seasonal unit décor.
· Ensure compliance with all regulatory, safety, and infection control standards.
· Perform additional duties as assigned by the Therapeutic Recreation Director
Qualifications
· CTRS certification preferred or eligibility to sit for the CTRS exam
· Bachelor’s in Therapeutic Recreation or related field from an accredited college
· Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in a skilled nursing, rehabilitation, or healthcare setting
· Knowledge of MDS 3.0, care planning, and therapeutic recreation documentation
· Proficiency with electronic medical records, Point Click Care preferred
· Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
· Energetic, creative, and adaptable to diverse resident populations
