Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and dependable
Maintenance Worker to maintain the safety, physical plant, and grounds of our healthcare facility. In this role, you will perform routine repairs and preventive maintenance to ensure a clean, comfortable, and hazard-free environment for our residents and staff. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team, manage inventory, and directly impact the comfort and convenience of those in our care.
Key Responsibilities Maintenance & Technical Tasks - General Repairs: Perform routine plumbing, plastering, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical tasks as directed.
- Groundskeeping: Maintain outside grounds, walkways, and parking lots by cutting, trimming, sweeping, and clearing means of egress.
- Equipment Care: Inspect, test, and repair clinical and non-clinical machinery, tools, and adaptive resident equipment (wheelchairs, geri-chairs, walkers).
- HVAC Systems: Service heating and cooling units according to manufacturer specifications and compliance rules.
- Vendor Support: Assist inspectors, outside contractors, and specialized vendors during facility projects.
Administrative & Documentation - Assessments & Planning: Participate in annual facility assessments and provide input on budget and supply requests.
- Reporting: Log completed tasks, file inspection reports, track equipment repair costs, and submit work orders.
- On-Call & Meetings: Maintain on-call hours for emergency repairs, attend department meetings, and participate in Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) committees.
- Financial Tracking: Maintain receipts for all purchases made using facility resources and accounts.
Safety & Sanitation - Safety Protocols: Follow life safety, electrical safety, lockout/tagout, and infection prevention policies.
- Hazard Mitigation: Keep work areas clean, handle spills, and utilize floor signs, cones, or safety tape to prevent accidents.
- Resident Consideration: Coordinate all maintenance work to respect residents' property rights and minimize impacts on their daily routines.
Qualifications & Job Requirements - Education: Must possess, at a minimum, a 10th-grade education.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands Ability to move intermittently during working hours, walk distances, and work in cramped spaces or adverse weather.
Must be able to push, pull, move, and lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a height of 5 feet, and carry it for 50 feet.
Exposure to various facility areas, varying noise levels, dust, chemical disinfectants, and potential infectious waste.
Willingness to work beyond normal hours, shifts, weekends, and holidays, and respond to emergency call-backs (e.g., severe weather or post-disaster).
Ability to assist team members with lifting heavy loads and support the emergency evacuation of residents if required.
