We are seeking an experienced and dependable Director of Maintenance and Environmental Services (EVS) to oversee the maintenance, housekeeping, laundry, safety, and overall physical environment of our skilled nursing facility.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong knowledge of building operations, life-safety requirements, infection-control practices, and healthcare regulations. This position plays an essential role in maintaining a safe, clean, comfortable, and welcoming environment for our residents, visitors, and employees.
Key Responsibilities
Direct the daily operations of the Maintenance, Housekeeping, and Laundry departments
Recruit, train, schedule, supervise, and evaluate departmental employees
Ensure resident rooms, common areas, offices, and facility grounds are clean, safe, and well maintained
Develop and manage preventive-maintenance programs for building systems and equipment
Coordinate routine repairs involving plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and general maintenance
Conduct regular facility inspections and promptly address identified concerns
Maintain required documentation, inspection logs, maintenance records, and service reports
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including life-safety, fire-safety, OSHA, infection-control, and environmental requirements
Prepare the facility for regulatory surveys and assist with plans of correction when necessary
Oversee fire drills, emergency-preparedness activities, generator testing, and other required safety procedures
Manage outside vendors, contractors, service agreements, and repair projects
Monitor departmental inventory and ensure adequate supplies, tools, and equipment are available
Assist with departmental budgets, purchasing, and cost-control initiatives
Respond promptly to urgent maintenance and environmental-service needs
Collaborate with Administration, Nursing, Infection Prevention, and other departments
Participate in facility committees, quality-assurance initiatives, and safety programs
Maintain residents’ privacy, dignity, comfort, and safety at all times
Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrator
Qualifications
Previous maintenance or environmental-services leadership experience required
Experience in a skilled nursing, rehabilitation, long-term care, hospital, or healthcare setting strongly preferred
Working knowledge of building systems, preventive maintenance, life-safety standards, and emergency procedures
Familiarity with healthcare surveys and regulatory compliance preferred
Knowledge of housekeeping, laundry, sanitation, and infection-control practices
Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Basic computer skills and the ability to maintain accurate electronic and written records
Relevant licenses or certifications must be maintained where required by applicable law
Ability to respond to occasional emergencies outside normal business hours
Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, including walking, bending, climbing, lifting, and working with maintenance equipment
